About the exhibition

The Collezione Giancarlo e Danna Olgiati in Lugano will present a new exhibition entitled What’s New? consisting of recently acquired works by established artists alongside works by up-and-coming young stars of the international art scene. The exhibition narrative takes in paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs, offering an exemplary comparison of different expressive languages and poetics. The aim is to highlight the fundamental dialogue between the historical avant-garde movements of the early 20th century and contemporary art, in a sort of immersive journey spanning over a century, punctuated by surprising in-depth studies. The 34 works on display are arranged in various separate chapters, from line and medium in abstract art to an investigation of light and colour in the works of Franz West and Rudolf Stingel, and a tribute to Jimmie Durham, who was awarded a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2019 Venice Biennale.
